Odd Sock Day

As part of Anti-Bullying Week we enjoyed Odd Socks Day. It was an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!

The Great Fire of London

Having learnt so much about London as it is today we have now travelled back in time to 1666. We have found out about The Great Fire of London and discovered that on Sunday 2nd September 1666 the fire started in Thomas Farriner's Bakery on Pudding Lane. The fire lasted for 5 days and although a third of London was destroyed only 6 people died. We have discovered that this fire lead to many changes that we can still see today. We now are lucky to have a fire brigade service and houses are no longer made of wood and straw or built so closely together.

We enjoyed re-enacting The Great Fire of London with the Freshwater Theatre Group.

We made houses in the style of the homes from 1666. The teachers used these to re-create The Great Fire Of London. It was amazing to see how quickly the fire spread and imagine what it must have been like during the fire in 1666.

Chocolate Maths

We have being comparing numbers using CHOCOLATE! We used 'Smarties' and 'Buttons' as our quantities and used chocolate fingers to make the symbols for 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to'. We had lots of fun, learnt new maths and enjoyed a tasty treat, yummy!

London Landmarks

We used iPads to search for images of London landmarks. We saved the images on to the iPads then used them to make a collage. We even added text and changed the background and layout. Look how fantastic they are....

London Transport

We have been learning all about London.

This week we watched a video clip about life in our busy capital city.  We noticed all the different types of transport used and decided to draw these in our sketchbooks and on the iPads! Today we made our pictures come to life by printing our images and creating a ‘London’ background for our 2D moving pictures.

We are so proud of them!

A Royal Tea Party

Africa class received a special royal invitation delivered to our classroom. We were invited to afternoon tea with our monarch, Her Majesty the Queen! That afternoon we went into a royal spakce, complete with posh tablecloths, cups and saucers and dainty treats. Everyone made flags and designed crowns to wear for the occasion. Everyone remembered to bow or curtsey as they met the Queen. Have a look at the pictures to see how much fun we had.

Welcome to Africa!

At the start of the year we spent some time learning about our class continent...Africa.

We enjoyed learnt about where Africa is in world, what it is like in Africa, the names of African countries, famous people from Africa, African landmarks and African animals.

These pictures show us making African necklaces and using oil pastels to create African animal prints and patterns, please take a look....

2018-2019

European Day of Languages

We celebrated European Languages Day by going into different classes and learning about France. In Mexico we learnt a french song about an elephant balancing on a spider's web, in Australia we made made and looked at French landmarks and in Kenya we tasted different French foods. Have a look at us tasting brioche and crepes.

Animals 'R' Us

Ranger Rob came in to school to help us with our animals topic. He brought lots of different and exciting animals for us to learn about and hold. We were very brave and many of us overcame huge phobias! Have a look at our photographs to see the animals that we met.

Florence Nightingale

We are always so excited when Freshwater Theatre Company come to visit us. This time we travelled back in time to learn about Florence Nightingale. We pretended to be nurses and wounded soldiers and tried very hard to imagine what life would have been life in the Crimean War. We also learnt how Florence Nightingale helped to improve hospitals. Thank you Florence Nightingale!

2017-2018

A Visit from a Real Artist...

Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from a real watercolour artist! His name is Hugh Templeton and he came to Fairfield School to help us with our paintings about plants and growing. Have a look at the slideshow to see the wonderful work that we created with Hugh's help.

Toys - past and present

We have been learning all about toys in the past. We found out how the teddy bear got its name (ask your child) and we invented new toys for the future.

 R.E - BAPTISM

As part of our R.E work about baptism, we were lucky enough to go up to our local church, St John the Baptist, Bircle. Reverend Joyce helped us to learn more about baptism by showing us how it actually happens (with a doll!).  Thank you Reverend Joyce, we enjoyed our visit and learnt lots more about baptism.

Freshwater Theatre Company - The Great Fire of London

What a fabulous start we had to our new topic! On Friday, Alison came to visit our school to teach us all about the Great Fire of London. We took part in some amazing workshops and we learnt all about how the fire started, what happened to London, how the fire was put out and all about the famous Samuel Pepys. We had a fantastic session and are ready to use our new learning in our lessons.

Online Safety

Last week we had a whole school assembly to present the work we have been doing about online safety. Antarctica class have learnt about keeping ourselves safe online and not sharing our personal information. This includes pictures of ourselves, our names, ages and addresses.

We learnt how to write an email and we wrote an email to a pretend friend to warn her of the dangers of sharing personal information online.

Click on the links below to see some examples of our emails.

Freshwater Theatre Company

Antarctica class have been around the world today! We "visited" Africa, Asia, Antarctica and the North Pole and we learned all about the weather in different parts of the world. First we had to pack our explorers bag. We remembered to include sun cream, water, a camera, insect repellent, a hat and scarf, a compass and a pair of binoculars. We had great fun bumping into different animals from the different continents and getting on and off the aeroplane. Thank you Freshwater Theatre Company!

Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken...

Look at us enjoying the chickens in our classroom and even conquering some of our fears...

A Day on the Farm

We had a brilliant day at the farm! The weather stayed dry and we we pretended we were farmers for the day. Have a look at our photos to find out more.

Snow buggies

Antarctica class made snow buggies to link to our 'Explorers' topic. We gathered materials and designed our snow buggies for use in Antarctica. We had to think about how they could be made waterproof and how they might get across the snow and ice. Here are some pictures of us being creative.

A "Wheelie" Good Day!

The children of Antarctica learnt vital basic safety skills and had great fun when they enjoyed a day of basic bicycle training run by the National Cycling Association. The children learned how to use breaks and how to balance without stabilisers before the playground was turned into a pretend highway. They learned skills they will use once they are riding larger bikes on real roads.

"FIGHTING FIT" TOPIC

Antarctica enjoyed making healthy fruit kebabs as part of our "Fighting Fit" topic.  Ask your child to tell you about other ways of keeping fit and healthy. After we had enjoyed our fruit kebabs, we wrote instructions so cookery club could make them too.

Manchester Police Museum

What a fabulous trip we had to the Manchester Police Museum! We tried on costumes, visited an old police station and even went into a real old-fashioned cell. The children had a great afternoon learning about police now and in the past.

Rama and Sita

As a part of our R.E work, we re-told the story of Rama and Sita using puppets.
