Spring News
Friday 1st April
I am honestly in shock that we are at the end of another term. That is 2/3rds of my first year done at Fairfield and I have loved every minute. It has certainly been a busy term again. We had a lovely Easter themed assembly this morning with Reverend Harvey where he talked about what Christians celebrate at Easter. The lighter nights and mornings help our moods lift and we certainly have lots of exciting things to look forward to in the summer term-see some dates below to save them in your diary!
Congratulations Miss. Woods
We will be welcoming Miss. Woods back as Mrs. Foster as she is getting married during the Easter holidays. We send huge congratulations to her and Mr. Foster from everyone at Fairfield!

Friday 11th March
Mr. Seddon’s departure
As mentioned previously Mr. Seddon will be putting his feet up for a well-deserved retirement on 25th March. We cannot let him go without a good send off! The children are all planning songs to serenade him with and these will be performed at 1.30pm that day in an assembly. Due to fire regulations on numbers, we can only invite one adult per family to attend. We will send out a link next week so that you can indicate if you wish to attend so we make sure to have enough chairs!
Late arrivals
You may have noticed that Mrs. Beswick has been at the office door this week to monitor which children are arriving late. There is a huge amount of lost learning time for those children that are arriving after 9am so it is pleasing that the numbers have reduced this week. Thank you for your support going forward with this-keep it up!
Book Fair
We have our book fair returning next week from Wednesday 16th to Tuesday 22nd March. The books will be available after school until 3.20pm to browse and buy. Children can bring in their voucher that they were give and get £1.00 off their chosen book. Payments accepted online.

Friday 4th March
Thank you so much for the super effort we saw with the ‘Book in a box’ creations. The children loved sharing them with each other in class and with our grown ups after school too. It really helped us all think about the range of authors we know too and continue to develop that love of reading.
Sponsored sports event
It has taken a little while to be able to share this news as the office have been busy counting the money but we raised an incredible £1400 with the sponsored fitness event on 7th February. Some of this money goes to support athletes across the UK but school will be getting a voucher for approximately £600, which we can use for playground/sports equipment. So a huge thank you to you all for your fundraising efforts!
Dinner, Nursery and Owl Club Arrears - Financial Year End
We have been informed by the Local Authority that we need to notify them of all dinner money, Nursery and Owl Club arrears at the end of every term. Therefore, please ensure that all money is paid online before 3pm on Wednesday 30th March. A reminder that dinner money is to be paid on the Monday of the week in which the meals are to be taken. All payments must be made online - dinners on the Bury Council website and all other payments on Scopay. Any significant or old arrears at the end of March will be referred to Bury Council for them to invoice and collect payment.
Donations for Ukraine
Thank you so much for the generous donations for the Ukrainian appeal. The items have been taken to the Polish centre in Bury so they are ready to be sent to the Ukraine imminently. We keep anyone affected by the ongoing conflict in our thoughts.

Homework
We have noticed again that the levels of engagement with homework have fallen off in some classes. The Education Endownment Fund toolkit on homework clearly states that evidence shows that the impact of homework, on average, is five months’ additional progress. We are confident that the approach we use does work and the children do enjoy it. If you need support with the use of the websites we use etc or have an issue with access to technology, please contact Mrs. Gilkey. I am going to start ringing families where we have seen a pattern of non-completion to see if we can support in any way.
Parent Governor
We now have a vacancy for a parent governor at school. We will shortly be sending out more information about what the role entails and the process of nominating yourself for the role. If you would like to chat to a current governor about the role, please contact the school office and we can organise this. Watch out on Parent Hub for more info.
Late arrivals
We are noticing an increasing number of children coming into school via the school office after 9am. Just a reminder that the school doors open at 8:45am and the children are engaged in activities from that time. We know life can be busy but please strive to have the children here for 8:45am. If does make a difference to the children when they have that settled start with the rest of their class.

Friday 11th February
End of term fun!
It has been a lovely day in school today with lots of celebrating! I was joined at my tea party by a selection of our children that always choose to do the right thing J Mrs. Goff celebrated our love of books with some children and I got to be very impressed by some writing in Year 1 and 2. What a lovely way to end the half term and mark the fact that we are half way through the year…what a scary thought!
After half term (all being well) we are hoping to return to some normality and we will open up the Friday celebration assembly to parents/carers once again…hooray! The assembly is at 2.30pm on a Friday afternoon. Please wait by the office and you will be let in through the main entrance.

The children all looked fabulous today as they expressed their uniqueness! Thank you for the donations of £148, which will be sent to Place2Be. Attendance and Punctuality
We still have several children off school at the moment with Covid. We send get well wishes to them. Our attendance as an average for the school this half term is 93.8%. This takes account of any absence, including Covid. Let’s try and see if we can get over the national aim of 96% next half term!

Children’s Mental Health Week
Next week is Children’s Mental Health Week. Education professionals across the country have noticed an increase in the number of children who are struggling with their emotional and mental health. This was becoming evident even before Covid struck. As a school, it is our mission to ensure that the stigma around mental health is removed. The children know that we all have physical and mental health and we want them to know how to help themselves and others when they are struggling with their mental health. We will be doing lots of fun activities next week to promote this message! It all starts with the sponsored Be Active Event on Monday and our special visitor to school. Keep an eye on Twitter for lots of updates!
Dress to Express
As a culmination of our focus on mental health next week, we are asking the children to come to school in non uniform to allow them to express who they are as individuals. We are all unique and special and in terms of what they can wear next Friday, anything goes! Please just make sure they have sensible shoes and a warm coat for breaktimes. We are asking for a donation that we will send to Place 2 Be who do some amazing work and offer support for children with mental health needs. Please check out their fabulous website. Children's Mental Health Week - Place2Be
PE kits
As we approach the half way point of the year, I just wanted to send a reminder regarding our uniform policy on PE days. We are noticing some none PE items have been sneaking in! If it is PE day for your child, they should wear plain black leggings/tracksuit bottoms, white round neck t-shirt and their school jumper or cardigan. We will have some spare jumpers/cardigans the children can wear if they come to school in non uniform.
Polling Day Advanced notice.
We have been informed by the council that Thursday 5th May is a large election across Bury and that the school will be required as a polling station. As a result, school will be closed on that day.
Events next week
Monday 7th February- Sponsored sports event and the start of Children’s Mental Health week. ALL children to come in school PE kit
Friday 11th February- Non uniform ‘Dress to express’. Donations welcome for Place 2 Be
Finish for half term 3pm
Reopen for Spring 2 on Tuesday 22nd February at 8:45am
Future date for your diary- The next Fit and Fed event will be Saturday 5th March at 11am
Friday 21st January
Change to entrance point to school
I wanted to give advanced notice that in the next week or so, access to school (for the main school day) via the car park will no longer be possible. The entrance will be from Rochdale Old Road and the gates at the front of school. This is due to Health and Safety concerns about mixing pedestrians and vehicles. I appreciate that for families who live on the Fairfield Drive side of school, this will add a bit longer to your time to get to school, but ultimately, my priority is to keep everyone safe. Thank you for your support and understanding with this.
Homework
I was very pleased to hear from Polar Bear class today, that EVERY single child in the class, completed ALL their homework this week. J What great habits to keep going for high school! I wonder if any other class can achieve this next week too? The challenge is set!
Free Family First Aid course
I am attaching some information about a free Family First Aid course currently being run at Bury Adult Learning Service for parents and carers. The course started last week but some places have become available due to unforeseen circumstances. Parents interested in joining should phone 0161 253 5772 to enrol.

Latest Covid Guidance
Below is the latest guidance which takes effect from Monday. Thank you for your ongoing support with keeping everyone safe.
From Monday 17 January, people who are self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test
negative with a lateral flow device (LFD) test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day.If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.

Packed lunches
We have noticed a large amount of large chocolate bars and sweets etc coming into school in packed lunch boxes. Please have a
look at the link below regarding suggestions for a packed lunch.

The children have 45 minutes for their lunch break. This is to allow them to eat and to enjoy some outside time as well. Please don’t over face them as they often feel like they have to eat everything. We are now sitting in class groups together regardless of if they are on school meals or packed lunches, so why not consider putting your child on a hot school meal. I have attached the menu so you can see. School meals are FREE for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. We just need one weeks notice of any change to meal patterns.
Recycling
Our Young Leaders have been doing a great job in encouraging their friends to recycle. Our Monday Craft club would love to create
a mural like the one below, so please can we ask you to safe bottle tops and send them into school.

We do have quite a number of children absent from school with Covid unfortunately.
The guidance now is that if someone tests positive with no symptoms they just isolate with no PCR but if they have symptoms they still isolate but get a follow up PCR test.
Have a great weekend and stay safe.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Gilkey
